St Pete Beach: Hot Laps at the Postcard Inn

St Pete Beach: Hot Laps at the Postcard Inn

Team Phuckit traveled to the other coast of Florida to participate in round 3 of the P1 AquaX USA Florida Championship Series. This venue was a first for us and for the series, but beautiful St. Pete Beach turned out to be a great spot for racing with the charming Postcard Inn serving as a great home-base for both racers and spectators. The close-knit layout of the hotel, wet pits and dry pits made for ease of communication between racers and the P1 AquaX staff, as well as promoted mingling of racers and fans, many of which got to experience jet ski racing for the first time, drink in hand, from the comfort of their own beach chairs! With Amanda’s twenty-ninth birthday having been just a few days prior, and Father’s Day falling on the Sunday of our race weekend, there was lots to celebrate and a great time was had by all!

After her win in Daytona and a fourth-place finish in St. Cloud, Amanda came into the weekend holding onto her lead in the championship by the skin of her teeth, only seven points ahead of Eric Diaz. Knowing she would have to finish ahead of Diaz in at least one of the motos to keep her lead, the pressure was on once again. But despite her strong efforts, she took third place in each of the three motos behind Noland and Diaz to finish third overall for the weekend, and now sits in second place in the Championship, nine points behind Diaz. With two whole months between now and the next round, she plans train in overdrive with the hopes of regaining her lead.

For George, the weekend was all about getting back into the groove after suffering through mechanical issues in the first two rounds of the season. The days leading up to the St. Pete race were quite stressful for him as his ski was out of commission after blowing the supercharger clutch during a training session the previous weekend. As late as Thursday morning before the race, we were unsure whether his Yamaha FX SVHO would be at the starting line that Saturday, but thanks to the amazing service department at Riva Motorsports who got the ski back in action, George was finally feeling like everything was back to normal. Some less-than-steller starts unfortunately kept him out of the lead pack in each of the weekend’s motos, but he rode hard to battle his way through the ranks and finished with a strong top-ten finish overall for the weekend. Now that everything seems to be working just fine, he looks forward to an even stronger finish in round 4 in August.

It’s hard to believe that we’re already half-way through the 2017 race season, but it’s been a great one so far. With the next round of the Florida Championship Series taking place in beautiful Islamorada, Florida – our weekend riding turf – we couldn’t be more excited for August to get here. Stay tuned to see what Team Phuckit is up to between now and then!!
