It’s a Celebration: Good times at P1 AquaX St. Pete Beach 2019

For the third year in a row, the P1 AquaX Florida Amateur and National Pro tours brought the series to the shores of St. Pete Beach, Florida for an exciting Father’s Day weekend. As usual, the whole Phuckit Racing team made the trek across the state for a weekend of hard work and good fun, but this time the racers and crew arrived in style, with their brand new 2019 Dodge Ram 2500 towing their newly acquired race trailer full of toys and equipment. Because it was not only Father’s Day but also team pilot Amanda’s 31st birthday, they added a little luxury and R&R into the mix with an early arrival to enjoy the amenities of the beautiful and historic Don CeSar Hotel.

As the other racers started to arrive on Friday morning and the pits started to fill up, the excitement began to build. From setting up with the new trailer to reconnecting with friends and rivals over a few beers at the bar, the weekend was off to a great start and though overcast, the weather even cooperated. After an afternoon spent at the pool and checking out the race site on the beach, registration and tech inspections went smoothly and the team headed to the P1 AquaX welcome party hosted by title sponsor 3 Daughter Brewing in downtown St. Petersburg.

Friday morning started off bright and early for George and Amanda who were invited by P1 CEO Azam Rangoonwala to be interviewed by CBS Channel 10 news as part of their feature on the AquaX and Superstock racing taking over the beach that weekend. After watching the sun light up the already stunning Don CeSar, the pits once again became the center of activity as crews scrambled to get skis and equipment down to the beach while the riders headed inside for the rider’s briefing.

Conditions were quite pleasant as everyone reconvened on the beach to get ready for the first race of the weekend, which would be the Am 200 and 300 classes. Although flatter than desired by most, the fast course proved to be a great showcase of speed and power and the racers had a great time battling against each other in a line of over 40 competitors. In Race 1 George finished in 14th following a less-than-stellar start, and unfortunately wound up with a DNF in race two after his supercharger coupler blew off about half-way through Race 2. Amanda fought hard to finish in 5th place in the 200 class in both races. But despite not having achieved the results the riders hoped for, the whole team left the beach with smiles and excited for what the weekend still had in store.

After opening birthday presents together, the group headed down to the Don CeSar’s Row Bar where P1 AquaX was hosting a gathering to celebrate the announcement of the new World Rankings. It was a joyous time as fellow Riva Racing rider Brian Baldwin accepted his World #1 Jersey, having claimed it over Broward Motorsports’ Eric Francis. We ate oysters and sipped champagne in style before heading out for a team dinner at the Brass Monkey in nearby Pass-A-Grille beach.

The Phuckit Racing crew proved themselves worthy of endless praise on Sunday morning when they woke up early and had everything set up before George and Amanda had even opened their eyes. Condition-wise, Sunday gave us more of the same with overcast conditions and smooth waters. Race 3 saw George make massive gains, moving from his starting position of 25th on the line up to 13th place before the race was cut short due to marine life in the area. Amanda again finished in 5th place, for an overall 5th place finish for the weekend. George’s combined results landed him in 18th place out of the 38 riders in his class.

With one race left in the 2019 season, the team has already got their sights set on 2020 and have some changes in mind to make it the best season yet. But in the meantime, we’ve still got Round 4 and plenty of time to prepare…we’re coming for you, Pensacola!
